GEORGE NEWS - According to a statement issued by the George Municipality, limited water supply was temporarily restored to East and West Wilderness on Friday afternoon after the Ebb and Flow Reservoir reached an adequate storage level.
However, due to exceptionally high demand, the reservoir level dropped again shortly after flow was restored, prompting the municipality to urge residents to use water sparingly until the network is fully stabilised.
Municipal technicians are currently adjusting the network on the western side of Wilderness to maintain a constant inflow to the reservoir.
As a result, residents in this area may experience reduced water pressure or short periods without water.
Kleinkrantz has begun receiving water, although pressure remains extremely low while the reservoir continues to fill.
Reports of brown or discoloured water have also been received. The municipality said this was expected during the restart of the system and should clear as the network stabilises.
The 75mm pipe burst on a link to the main supply line, reported earlier on Friday, has since been repaired.
Water tankers will remain available until 22:00, with one roaming in Wilderness West and additional tankers stationed at Kleinkrantz Resort and Sands Road.
George Municipality apologised for the ongoing inconvenience and noted that staff are actively monitoring the system to restore full water supply as soon as possible.
Residents are encouraged to follow verified information channels for updates, including the municipality’s WhatsApp channel, the George Municipal App, and the official Facebook page.
