GEORGE NEWS - A group of ANC members and supporters from Ward 21 in George are gathering at the ANC Regional Offices in Mitchell Street today, 12 August, to hand over a memorandum outlining their grievances.
The members are unhappy with the party’s recent candidate selection process for the ward ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
According to the group, their concerns include the way the nomination process had been conducted, the notice given for meetings, and the involvement of various ANC structures and officials in the process.
They also claim that some members and residents were unable to participate in parts of the process.
The group say they believe the process was not handled fairly and are calling on the ANC to address their concerns.
The memorandum will be handed over at the ANC Regional Offices at 108 Mitchell Street, behind the taxi rank, where the protest is currently taking place.
The group says it believes the process was not handled fairly and wants the ANC to investigate and respond to the concerns raised in the memorandum.
Memorandum of grievances is being read, and will be handed over to Mervin Olivier (right), member of the Regional Task Team.
