Update
GEORGE NEWS - The current Wilderness and Kleinkrantz water issue, started on Wednesday 19 November, with reports of no water or low water pressure.
Water supply to Wilderness and Kleinkrantz is affected by a blockage in the main supply line between Akela and Wilderness reservoirs.
Teams have been installing two temporary bypass lines to restore flow while locating the obstruction.
Municipal teams have identified what appears to be historic debris inside the main supply line, which is a closed system.
Project 1: Temporary Pipeline (Akela Reservoir to Kaaiman's Train Bridge)
A temporary 400m pipeline connection between Akela Reservoir and Kaaiman's bridge has been completed to provide a secondary feed into the supply pipeline. The water flow has been restored. The pipeline is open and running.
Low water pressure will still be experienced as the system fills up, whilst higher lying areas might still not have water.
Project 2: New 200mm pressure line
A new 200m section of 200mm diameter pressure pipeline has been completed. The blockage on the feeder pipeline from the reservoir had also been located and opened.
The pipeline will be scoured this morning to ensure there's no further blockages in the pipeline. Once the latter is completed, work will continue on the connection to reinstate the existing primary waterflow to the affected areas.
Further updates will follow as work progresses.
George Municipality assures residents that multiple operational teams are working continuously to restore water supply to Wilderness. Technical interventions remain underway and will continue until the system is fully stabilised.
Water Trucks will be in place from 07:00:
Kleinkrantz:
Two water trucks in operation:
• One stationed at the Kleinkrantz informal settlement
• One roaming the area
• Wilderness East
• Waves Garage
Residents are urgently requested not to call the after-hours number for outage updates, as this slows response operations.
