GEORGE NEWS - Members of the Southern Cape Old Car Club (SCOCC) are gearing up to welcome exhibitors from across the country and thousands of car enthusiasts to the 29th edition of the George Old Car Show (Gocs) on Saturday 14 February.
Themed ‘140 Years of Driving Innovation’, the one-day show will be hosted at Eden Technical High School from 09:00 to 17:00 and promises a full programme of activities.
SCOCC’s chairperson, Waldo Scribante, said the decision to focus on Saturday only worked a charm.
“Our social media partners showed overwhelming support for the show, proving that the passion for old cars is far from old.
On 14 February, we will celebrate those pioneers who steered the motoring world into motion. It’s 140 years since the first motorcar was patented, and Saturday’s show will honour this remarkable history with a rare collection of engines on display,” he said.
Protea Hotel King George by Marriott is again a key sponsor of the Gocs. It is joined by the George Municipality and Tourism, along with headline sponsors AutoPavilion, SAB, JP Spares, MTN and Tyremart.
This year also marks the 20th Vet Tour, which will add a special display to complement the vehicles on show.
At the Gocs launch last year, George’s then deputy mayor (now mayor), Browen Johnson, praised the event for celebrating motor heritage and contributing to the spirit of George. He thanked the chief organiser, Alewijn Dippenaar, and his committee for their dedication. “Their work yields dividends for our economy and the pride of our citizens,” he said.
Celebrate the pioneers of the automotive industry at Eden Technical High on Saturday. Last year, social partners earned R300 000 through their involvement in the George Old Car Show, so every ticket sold counts.
