GEORGE NEWS - Eleven dance students from the local dance school Rhythmical Seeds performed on invitation last weekend at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town, in the production Dance E-Volution.
The production formed part of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport's (DCAS) 50th birthday celebrations.
The 11 dancers (solo and group performances) were identified through the competition Knysna Talent Search, hosted last year September by the Knysna Municipality and DCAS.
Rhythmical Seeds' young dancers received the top five positions of the talent search. "All the children are from George, and they were the only children included in the Dance E-Volution production," said Lizette Gerber, owner of Rhythmical Seeds. Dance E-Volution was a culmination of departmental dance projects and the top five performances of the Knysna dance talent search.
"Our dancers shared the stage with trained adult dancers from establishments like JazzArt. The majority of our group was students 13 years and younger," said Gerber. "We are so thankful for the department's invitation as this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We feel blessed and are extremely proud of our dancers."
Raymond Anderson Dreyers, principal cultural officer for dance at the department, said the show not only highlighted the extraordinary talent within the Western Cape, including the amazing riel dance capabilities of various groups but showed most importantly that social cohesion is indeed possible through the arts.
"I think the cherry on top was the audience's standing ovation, applauding these up-and-coming dancing stars of tomorrow." Dreyers thanked all the associated companies for their valuable contributions.
