GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The Charl du Plessis Trio will perform their concert Opposites Attract at the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre on Sunday 21 October. The trio, always a crowd favourite, is sure to dazzle the audience with their celebration of vocal music performed on instruments - with no singer in sight.
The afternoon promises to be an interesting combination of music from opposite worlds, combining some of the world's most popular opera arias and evergreen songs from the world of jazz. Dramatic tension is created by combining composers such as Verdi and Rossini with the gentle and easy sounds of jazz.
Be ready to listen to extracts from Tosca, Die Zauberflöte and Carmen, complimented by Django, Duke Ellington and C Jam Blues.
Charl says he has always been fascinated by the energy between opposites. "The push and pull of extreme musical genres on one concert programme seems like a challenge. The performer becomes the central catalyst, trying to communicate common musical aspects and leave the audience making a new connection between styles previously unlinked."
This programme incorporates his love for opera with the 11-year tradition of the trio making crossover arrangements of well-known classical pieces. "The drama and sheer beauty of the melodies from the opera stage seemed like a fitting combination for our contemporary treatment," he says. "As ever, we handle the compositions with the utmost care and respect and try and shine a new light on these masterpieces."
The concert is hosted by the George Music Society, bringing world-class artistes that offer something different from their usual classical fare to George. Bring along friends and family for a special afternoon that will stay in your memory for a long time to come.
The concert starts at 15:30. Tickets can be booked at www.georgemusicsociety.co.za. Prices are R100 for members, R150 for non-members and R30 for students.
