GEORGE NEWS - The University of the Third Age (U3A) starts its February events calendar on Friday 9 February with a talk presented by Constant Hughes-Traherne entitled 'Singapore - Red Dot!'.
Traherne and his wife lived in Singapore for four years and had the privilege or experiencing the unique Singaporean culture and foods that this cosmopolitan city has to offer.
As one explores the city one can start to appreciate what has been achieved in 50 years by this industrious nation to become the richest in Asia after Japan.
Traherne has enjoyed a varied career in information and communication technology and has lived in Virginia, USA; London, and Singapore until his retirement when he moved to George.
There are refreshments at 10:00 and the talk starts at 10:30.
In Armchair Travel on Wednesday 14 February, Dr Robert-Ian Caldwell will talk about walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in 2012.
Caldwell retired to Knysna four years ago after 40-odd years as a physician in Pietermaritzburg. He has always loved to perform on stage.
To his surprise and delight his opportunities to be on stage have continued after retirement. He is well known and loved as a delightful entertainer.
This talk starts at 10:30.
On Monday 26 February at 14:00, Case Rijsdijk will lead another discussion on International Affairs.
At the annual general meeting on Wednesday 28 February the Digi Camera Club will display their annual work and present their awards.
All meetings are at Emmaüs in Memoriam Street and visitors are always welcome.
Constant Hughes-Traherne will be giving a talk on Singapore.
