ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The George Music Society is very proud to present its last concert for this year, a performance of compositions by Schumann and Brahms by the acclaimed pianist Pieter Jacobs.
The concert takes place at the Dotsure George Arts Theatre at 15:30 on Sunday 26 November.
The first half entails Schumann's Fantasiestücke Op 12 and a choice of Brahms Ballades Op 10 - all of which were composed when the composers were still in their twenties.
The second half is dedicated to Schumann's Faschingsschwank aus Wien (Carnival Jest from Vienna), Op 26.
Jacobs is celebrated for his outstanding solo and chamber music performances in South Africa and has been hailed by critics as "magisterial".
He has combined his love for music with an interest in electronic science, obtaining not only a PhD in Musical Arts from Yale University School of Music, but also a PhD in electronic engineering from the University of Pretoria (UP).
His research in the electronic engineering department at UP, where he leads a number of postgraduate students, focuses on artificial intelligence and music. He is a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated researcher.
Tickets cost R150 for adults, R50 for learners and R100 for members and will be available at the Arts Theatre as well as at www.georgemusicsociety.co.za.
