GEORGE NEWS - John T Haas, third place winner at the George Has Got Talent final, loved singing from a young age and was always part of school and community choirs.
In later years, he joined Inkkoors, a theatre group under the guidance of Wendy Anthonie, where he gave expression to his love for singing and drama. He performed regularly at functions in the Beaufort West area where he was born and bred.
In 2015 he moved to Mossel Bay and from there to Pacaltsdorp, where he works at the local pharmacy.
"My voice is an instrument of the Lord that I use through my singing to honour Him and I am eager to use opportunities to share my talent. I have assisted as a programme director and artist for Cansa and I perform for free at community functions that are close to my heart. I am privileged to have friends, family and a spouse who always support me in this."
He believes he inherited his talent and performing abilities from his late mother, his father and his "singing family". They used to all gather at his parents' home, especially on Sundays, and sing till after sunset.
"My spouse entered me for the GGT because he knows how close singing is to my heart and that I yearn to make a professional career of it," says Haas. He made the top 25 in the semi-finals, but fell out when the top 10 were announced.
"Later that day, I was called and told that the judges had decided to let the top 15 through to the final, and that I was among them. To end among the top three was a huge privilege and honour. I believe that everyone who participated was a winner."
