GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Cyan Scholtz (16), a learner of Glenwood House School, George, was recently crowned as the Face of Talent Africa 2019 at the Talent Africa national competition held in Port Elizabeth.
Cyan will be travelling to New York on 23 June to compete and represent the South African team at the Talent America international competition.
Cyan did very well during this year's South African regional talent competition held on 3 March in George.
She entered nine categories, including acting, drama, vocal, eisteddfod, modelling and visual art, and achieved excellent results in all. She received a special award and placed second overall performer and top model in her age group.
From 3 to 6 April, she competed at the South African national Talent Africa competition held in Port Elizabeth. Based on her excellent achievements, she was elected Face of Talent Africa 2019 and was chosen as a member of the South African team to represent South Africa at the Talent America international competition in New York.
Cyan competed in 25 categories and received 20 gold and five silver medals for various sub-categories including vocal, eisteddfod, speech and drama, modelling, photogenic modelling and visual art.
One of Cyan's outstanding talents is acting.
She was also chosen to be part of the showcase and special award prize-giving. She received special awards for top 10 senior actor, best senior articulation, best senior artist, best senior technique and best senior art concept.
She also received her Western Cape federation colours from the Federation of Performing Arts South Africa (FPASA).
Competition details
Talent Africa is a talent-based national competition which seeks to do three main things: to scout talent and give contestants a platform to perform on, to nurture and grow the talent, and to provide ongoing platforms and opportunities to work in the industry.
Contestants are divided into different age groups within the main categories (vocal, dance, instrumental, performing arts in drama and modelling), which are further divided into different genres or sub-categories.
Cyan hits the spot in evening wear.Each year's season begins in August and consists of three rounds. Each participant must qualify at one of the nine provinces' regional / provincial rounds to compete at the nationals (the second round), where all provinces compete for a place on the South African team.
There are two national rounds that normally take place in March or April. For the third round, the South African team travels to New York City to compete at the Talent America international competition in July every year. At international level competitors have the opportunity to be scouted further.
