GEORGE NEWS - On Sunday 27 February at 15:00, the Charl du Plessis Trio will present a concert for the George Music Society in the George Arts Theatre.
The trio returns to George with their new programme It takes three, featuring jazz arrangements of tango music.
The trio consists of pianist and Steinway artist Charl du Plessis, bass player Werner Spies and drummer Peter Auret.
Famous works such as Por Una Cabeza, Libertango, Jealousy Tango and La Cumparsita will be featured. The internationally acclaimed trio will also perform crossover music with well-known classical works by Beethoven, arranged in their signature jazzy style.
"The pliability of music is a concept I have been experimenting with for the past fifteen years," says Du Plessis. "The subtle art of changing the rhythm, altering the harmonic scheme or making a complete transformation by introducing a new groove has unlocked a world of musical possibilities."
In the past, Du Plessis made the decisions about their compositions alone, but this album is the result of a layered, workshop-style approach including all three members.
"For their contribution I owe my two colleagues my gratitude, especially Peter Auret who tirelessly worked of our album of this music and remains a constant muse in my personal musical journey," says Du Plessis.
The trio's new CD will also be presented at the concert. Tickets cost R220 for the public, R170 for music society members and R40 for school pupils. Book your tickets here or at the theatre.
