At the George Eisteddfod the drama department received one silver, one gold, 14 A+s and 44++s. Four senior students were invited to perform at the Gala Event where Lara van Huyssteen received the trophy for the high school drama student of the year and Lourens Obermeyer the trophy for the senior drama student of the year in the open section. Lourens also received an A+++ for his drama project in which he gave a brilliant performance with a combination of a musical theatre number, a monologue and a dance number.
Two senior students from the Elisabeth Potgieter Singing School are also registered with the George School of Performing Arts where they are busy studying for their tertiary Trinity College Examinations in Speech and Drama and Musical Theatre at the end of the year. Both Candice Koen and Lourens Obermeyer received three A++s for their solo performances.
The dance department, under the guidance of Annelise Smith, entered three musical theatre students for the Mossel Bay
Eisteddfod where they achieved two As and one A+ for their tap numbers. Two of the students also took part in Dance Mosaic, which was recently staged at the arts theatre. They shared the stage with other students of Smith's private dance school known as The Dance Workshop in a number called 'Medley of Musicals'.
Founder and Head of the school Ria Vorster says they are very grateful. "Even our tertiary students who are busy with their Trinity College four-year diploma in Musical Theatre proved that their dedication is worth their while for their future careers in the performing arts.
