GEORGE NEWS - The George Music Society will host the brilliant international saxophone quartet Quatuor Avena on Sunday 13 April at 16:30 at the Dutch Reformed Mother Church in George.
A pinch of South Africa, a spoonful of France, a touch of Italy and a zest of Japan all simmering in Strasbourg since 2016: these are the ingredients that make up the Quatuor Avena quartet.
Given their diverse and far-flung origins - Adam Campbell from South Africa (baritone saxophone), Sumika Tsujimoto from Japan (tenor saxophone), Fabio Cesare from Italy (alto saxophone) and Nicolas Allard from France (soprano saxophone) - it seems natural that the idea germinated between the four members to perform music that illustrates travel and an assortment of world cultures.
Since their founding in 2016, the quartet have experimented in applying their different saxophones to various musical menus.
They concoct exotic musical programmes presented in choreographed performances that create appetizing shows such as Around the World in Eighty Minutes.
While giving these varied performances, they continued studying and each obtained a master's degree in chamber music, building up an appetite fo musical shows that combine chamber music, spoken dialoue, choreography and a strong narrative.
Tickets for this unique performance, with compositions from Bach to traditional Japanese music, are R170 for the public, R50 for learners and R120 for George Music Society members.
They will be available at the concert but also online at www.georgemusicsociety.co.za. where the public can also join the George Music Society.
