With two sold out shows last Saturday and Sunday, those who missed the opportunity can look forward to catching their favourite characters on stage with an extra show to be held on Sunday 10 August.
When You Wish Upon a Star! is a tribute to Disney, and an effort to attract a younger audience to the community theatre, said Carina Beukes, from QMC productions.
Beukes is the writer and producer of the show, and Quintin van Biljon is the director.
"We focus on the youth," said Beukes. "Children should learn to use their imaginations again and enjoy theatre productions."
The feedback from parents who attended the show with their children was "awesome", said Beukes. "It was great to feel that we did Disney justice, knowing that we've put together a good show."
The gasping, yelping and shrieks from their audience gave a good indication of the children's enjoyment. One little wide-eyed girl asked her mum if Ariel is a "real mermaid". Another got teary when Snow White took that grievous bite from the apple.
Beukes's interpretation of the Disney characters is refreshing, and the use of modern dancers clothed in black to create a magical mood worked very well.
Playing with light and dark, lanterns and smoke enhanced the all-round excitement and feeling of "what's going to happen next".
"People should see what the theatre is capable of doing and appreciate their extensive wardrobe," said Beukes.
"We've put this show together in just six weeks. It is possible." All the actors in the show are locals who enjoy amateur acting - including a lot of children actors. A local band, Bad Assteroid, provided the music on stage.
For bookings contact the theatre on 044 874 3142. Tickets cost R30 (children) and R90 (adults). The theatre is also in dire need of volunteers to help in the costume department.
