GEORGE NEWS - First-time actors from George, Mossel Bay and Knysna gave their all during the filming of an action movie in George from 24 to 26 September.
Cape Town-based film company Inqwelo Cinema and a local organisation, KM Creative, joined forces and gave first-time actors the opportunity to showcase their talent over three days of shooting.
The storyline was conceptualised by Yandisa Ndzeku, co-owner and a script writer for Inqwelo cinema. It involves the challenges child-headed households face, and how decisions influences lives: Jennifer has reached a critical time in her life. She is trying to get out of the world of crime, as she had stolen enough money to manage her father's medical bills. She could be done with this life, but this life is not done with her.

Film director Andile Nodada is very pleased with the project and said the team is currently in Cape Town to raise at least R30 000 for the post-production process.
"We need a professional editor - someone who usually edits action films, because we don't want to compromise the quality," said Nodada. "After post-production, the team will contact all stakeholders for a private screening, from where it will be ready to hit the screen."
Fun and networking
Nodada said it was a weekend full of fun and learning, with a huge dose of networking. "The cast was amazing! One could almost swear that they were not first-timers." He said the Garden Route is brimming with artistic talent and that he had an amazing experience with the creative minds of the entire crew.
The cast include Courtney Jade Williams (Gemini Castings) from Mossel Bay in a lead role as Jennifer; Jurgens Walts from Knysna as the main villian Nico; Luciano Evans from George as the villain Marcus; Yonela Mgoqi from George as Owen; Jonathan Saure and his daughter Jessica Saure playing Mr Hendricks and Lisa Hendricks; assistant director Baxolile Mzileni as Jason; and finally, Aphiwe Nqevu as Razor.
"Inqwelo cinema has always been about discovering and developing talent," said Nodada. "It is our mission to give opportunities to those who would otherwise not have had the chance to showcase their talent. We have grown accustomed to taking whatever little resources we have at our disposal and use them optimally to create a beautiful body of work."
The project was made possible with the help of individuals (Nathan Brooks and Kamvelihle Stemela), organisations (Watt Media, Garden Route Food Pantry) and stores such as Kloppers.
