GEORGE NEWS - For a change, near-ideal sailing conditions prevailed on Sunday for the races of George Lakes Yacht Club. A south-easterly breeze of eight to 12 knots provided the motive power and all three scheduled races were completed.
With school exams and some members being away, only nine boats were competing. Hans Delport on his Dart 18 took line honours in all three races, with a winning margin of about six minutes ahead of the Laser of Henry Paine.
Behind, in race 1, there was close competition between the GP14s of Matthew de Villiers / Chris du Toit and Malcolm Osborne / Daniel Kruger, with several changes of lead during the race.
At the finish line, it was De Villiers who finished two seconds ahead. Just behind him was the Laser 4.7 of Kyle Koeries, keeping in contact with the leaders.
In the other two races, De Villiers was able to pull ahead of Osborne, while Koeries was also ahead of him in race three.
