EDEN DISTRICT NEWS - At the recent SA Bodyboarding Championships held in Durban from 1 to 7 October, the Eden Bodyboarding team took third place overall, proving they are a force to be reckoned with.
In the individual competition, the team had two riders who made it through to the finals. Kade Howorth from Plettenberg Bay finished second in the junior division, and Knysna-born Brett Eriksen did the same in the men's division.
According to Eriksen's uncle, head of the Knysna Sea Cadets, Lieutenant Commander Steve Eriksen, his nephew is a very keen bodyboarder and currently works as the first officer on a multimillion-dollar private yacht where his wife is the catering and hospitality officer, operating in Florida and Caribbean waters.
"Brett has been a member of this team since he was a teenager living in Knysna, attending Knysna High School. He arranged his leave especially to be able to participate in this championship and flew back to SA leaving his wife serving aboard the ship. He arranged the transport for his team to participate from his own pocket, and I think it is a splendid effort on his side," said Eriksen.
