GEORGE NEWS - Robertson was crowned the champion of the 2026 Ebrahim Patel Community Cup after a dramatic 25-22 sudden death victory over Safcol in a gripping final at Outeniqua Park on Monday 6 April.
Locked at 22-22 at full time, the match went to sudden death, where Robertson held their nerve to secure a memorable win and cap a weekend that showcased the best of South African community rugby.
Played over the Easter weekend from 2 to 6 April, the tournament drew strong crowds and national attention, showing its growing status as a premier community rugby event.
Named in honour of the late Ebrahim Patel, the first president of the South African Rugby Union, the competition continues to celebrate the depth of talent within community rugby.
Eight clubs took part, representing Bot River, Robertson, Safcol, Heidelberg, Bridgton, Blanco, Kruisfontein and PE Harlequins.
Earlier on Monday, PE Harlequins secured third place against Bot River. Bridgton claimed the shield with a 22-5 win over Blanco, while Kruisfontein took the plate, beating Heidelberg 50-19.
Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie attended the final and pledged R1m towards the tournament's future. George Mayor Browen Johnson said the event contributes to job creation and boosts the local economy.
Tournament director Romano Lekay described the event as a defining moment for community rugby, highlighting its role in creating opportunity and uniting communities.
