NETBALL NEWS - The Netball World Cup trophy was welcomed at two locations in George yesterday, Wednesday 5 July: first at Unity Park in York Street, from where it went to Imizamo Yethu High School in Thembalethu.
The fact that the Netball World Cup will be taking place on African soil for the first time - in Cape Town at that - has the whole country excited.
In the build-up to the championship, the trophy is currently on tour through the country, gradually making its way to Cape Town where the Netball World Cup is to take place from 28 July to 6 August.
"The Western Cape Government is very happy and honoured to receive this trophy and to embark on a tour across our province to get all communities excited about the Netball World Cup," said Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais on Monday, when the trophy was handed over from the Eastern Cape to the Western Cape in Storms River.
Various municipalities will be hosting fan zones and viewing centres that will enable people across the province to watch the live matches for free at a venue close to their homes. One of these fan zones will be at Rosemoor Stadium in George.
