The keen rivalry that had been displayed earlier this year was evident in the excitement, the laughter and jovial teasing that was heard around the greens from many of the participants. New faces, old faces, families there to support - all came out to enjoy this next instalment of the Gestetner saga.
The first round of matches was keenly contested with all teams jockeying to get into a favourable position to challenge for the prizes from the start. Stanmar Motors, winners earlier this year, have set the pace taking the points from newcomers Remax in no uncertain fashion. Gestetner, the sponsors, who were pipped at the post in the earlier series, are well positioned in 4th place with a solid win over the ever-competitive Shell Sandkraal team.
York High and Millers Attorneys are also both well placed in the top 10, ready to show that their senior placings in the earlier challenge were not as a result of luck but of good bowling.
With a fewchanges to the rules to allow the teams even more challenging bowling, the organisers have added a very posi-tive dimension to this league which, hopefully, will bring to the fore the talents that reside in the players competing.
Still smiling. The George Rotary team of Ian Rowan, Cheryl McKay, Trudie Venter and Phillip Gibbs prepare to do battle with the Old Mutual lineup of Chris Booysen, Andries Janse van Rensburg, Anthony Martin and Johan Faber.
