GEORGE NEWS - After being placed fifth on the grid at Saturday's 2023 Power Series at Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town, local young motorcyclist Dyllan Anderson (17) exceeded expectations by winning his class.
Anderson took part in the Breakfast Run class and finished his 18 laps in a time of 25:57.673. What makes his victory even sweeter is that it was his first real race, and definitely not the last. We might just be looking at the next Brad Binder.
"What an experience it was. First race, first place. And what an event!" Dyllan said. "The feeling you get when 20 motorcycles launch off the grid, and the heart-racing moment to see who can get in front for turn one and get the holeshot, is indescribable. Luckily, I managed to get two hard starts off the line that placed me in a good spot in the field."
Conrad Meyer and André Symes ended second and third respectively. Meyer finished on Anderson's heels with a time of 26:02.609 and Symes mere seconds later with a time of 26:09.254.
"I'm super proud of Dyllan," said his proud father, Craig Anderson.
"He has come a long way and he works hard. We've had a fair amount of support and sponsorships from local companies and we also just want to send out a huge thank-you to all of them."
Anderson won the first official race of his budding career.
Team Dyllan were from left, mom Linda Anderson, dad Craig, Hanlie Nel (back), Dyllan, David Enticott and Jacques vermaak.
