GEORGE NEWS - The Extreme Abilities crew, together with the Weskus Krewe parasurf team, will return to Victoria Bay on 20 and 21 September to host a two-day adaptive surfing clinic for people with physical or intellectual disabilities who are interested in the surfing lifestyle.
In April this year, the team hosted a smaller clinic on their way to the Parasurfing National Championships in Durban.
The response from participants in George and Mossel Bay was overwhelmingly positive, sparking the decision to bring the event back on a larger scale.
Day one of the clinic will focus on discussions about the future of parasurfing in South Africa, as well as a demonstration by the Weskus Krewe team.
Day two will be dedicated to hands-on surfing with the support of experienced water assistants, allowing participants to catch waves, ask questions, and build confidence in the ocean.
The event aims to connect the disability and surfing communities, strengthen grassroots parasurfing in the Southern Cape, and eventually establish Victoria Bay as a hub for national and international parasurfing events.
Participation is free, but organisers are appealing for local business support to help cover event costs.
