FOOTBALL NEWS - The pride and the last hope of the Eden Region in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial League, Black Cats, lost 1-0 against the Cape Town Spurs (formerly Ajax Cape Town) at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday 26 February.
In a game where the visitors were playing decidedly better football Black Cats were their own downfall, as the Spurs' score was put on the board via an own goal by Black Cats in the first half.
The Cats suffered further misfortune when Hussein Amimu was sent off with a red card in the second half after a strong verbal altercation with a Cape Town Spurs player.
Black Cats are currently sitting at the bottom of the league log table in stream A. So far they have played 11 games and have nine points after two victories, three draws and six defeats. Cape Town Spurs have played nine games and have 11 points after winning four games, drawing one, and losing four. They are in sixth position in stream A.
Black Cats relied on the strength of Mzwanele "Ngwenie" Jwaqa and Mivuyo "Sgi" Manzi to try and control the game. Shane-Lee Windvogel, Mivuyo Manzi, Luzuko Sabelesiva and Xolani Mandla made several shots at the goal. However, the star of the team was their goalkeeper, Siphosethu "Senzo" Nyunya (19), who made a brilliant save denying Spurs more points on the score board.
The Spurs goalkeeper Buhle Platjie also showed his class by blocking a number of shots from the Cats in the course of the game. Spurs used the speed of Viwe Maqungo and Cyde Combi who started their build-ups from the back line, opening up spaces for their wingers to break through. Spurs' luck was in when Linamandla Mchilizeli sent a cross inside the box and Black Cats player Lukhona Ntulo netted an own goal to put Spurs ahead 1-0.
The Spurs players were looking very comfortable on the ball, creating more opportunities inside the box, but Black Cats' talented young goalkeeper Siphosethu Nyunya blocked all further attempts to score.
