GEORGE NEWS - The struggle continues on the local diski scene after the suspension of 17 clubs from the George Local Football Association (Geolfa) in April.
For the second time in just over a month, members of the suspended clubs prevented scheduled league games from being played last weekend when they blocked the entrance to the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday morning, 20 May.
The club members said they were unhappy because they had not been informed of a meeting that took place last week between Safa Eden and George Municipality, and consequently were not aware of what had been said at the meeting, including the information that their suspension had been lifted.
They also mentioned that they are not satisfied with the Geolfa executive members.
The 17 disgruntled clubs, that were suspended after they had taken part in an Easter tournament without Geolfa's consent, first prevented games from being played at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on 15 April.
During a subsequent meeting with George Municipality, it was decided that no Geolfa or Safa Eden games would take place on George municipal fields until Geolfa had sorted out its internal issues.
George Herald spoke to Safa Eden regional president Chris Tyawana on Monday 22 May about the latest developments. According to Tyawana, the clubs had been informed about the meeting with the municipality, but only one club member turned up. He said that the municipality was informed at the meeting that the clubs' suspension had been lifted and that the municipal fields can be opened for training and league games again.
Tyawana said they cannot allow the seven local football associations in the region to be controlled by Geolfa. If the Geolfa clubs do not comply with Safa Eden's decisions, the George league would be dissolved and no league would be played in George.
He said the 17 clubs will be fined for their behaviour since 15 April.
