FOOTBALL NEWS - The Safa Eden Regional Men's League reigning champions, Simunye FC from Lawaaikamp, failed another test away from home when they went down 2-1 against Peace Makers on Saturday afternoon, 13 May at Extension 23 in Mossel Bay. The three goals of the game were scored by Zimasa Qingana and Siwaphiwo Ndumiso for the home side and Sesethu Jack for Simunye.
Both teams are not doing very well this season with Simunye having lost their key players after failing to qualify for the elite Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial League last season.
The Mossel Bay team also started the season very slow without their big names. Hard-working players such as Llthalethu Zondani and Malwande Mhlakaza have joined their rivals, FC Benfica.
The Safa Eden Regional Men's League game got off to a good start with Peace Makers creating scoring opportunities in the box and Simunye facing some strong attacks from the home team wingers. Simunye tried to retaliate with proactive play, but failed to score from their opportunities.
Peace Makers scored their first goal from the boot of Zimasa Qingana after breaking through Simunye's defence with a strong attack on the flanks.
Both sides were trying to create more chances using their pace on the ball, but the first half ended with the home team leading 1-0. In the second half, Peace Makers took the game from the visiting team after receiving a penalty for a foul inside the box that saw Siwaphiwo Ndumiso scoring to make it 2-0.
Simunye tried their best to chase the game, playing skillful passes from the centre of the field, and Sesethu Jack scored the only goal for Simunye to make it 2-1.
With neither of the teams managing to score again, the Safa Eden Regional Men's League game ended 2-1 with Peace Makers collecting maximum points at home.
Simunye FC defender Jabulani Ndlovu controls the ball.
