The SACP is the latest to publicly rally behind Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan after he was sent three pages of questions by the Hawks about the so-called rogue unit at Sars, the week before he tabled the Budget speech in Parliament.
The Presidency, Gordhan and African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe have all released statements on the issue.
Cronin says now is not the time to pursue “petty” political matters.
“Any attack against very sensitive institutions within our economy, like Sars and the Treasury, needs to be avoided at all costs. We need to ensure that there’s unity between these key institutions. That’s our big concern as a party.”
