Releasing the annual #CrimeStats in Parliament‚ she said “drug circulation contributes to crimes in the country”.
Her comments come as Customs officials at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo Airport on Sunday arrested a little-known soapie actress on suspicion of carrying drugs into the country.
Ottilia Mmatjatji Malatji‚ 29‚ appeared briefly in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg. Her case was postponed to October 7 for a bail application and she remains in custody.
South African Revenue Service spokesman Luther Lebelo said on Monday that the actress was arrested after about 15kg of ephedrine‚ worth about R4.6-million‚ was found in her luggage. She had flown in from Abu Dhabi.
