GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route's water resources remain in a strong position this week, with the Garden Route Dam holding at 100% and Haarlem Dam just above full capacity.

The latest figures show that 23.6 mm of rain was recorded at the Garden Route Dam over the past week, while 18 mm was recorded at Haarlem Dam.

Garden Route Dam remains at 100%

The Garden Route Dam is currently 100% full, despite daily water demand remaining slightly above the municipality's target.

Current daily demand stands at 36.9 megalitres (ML) per day, compared with a target of 36 ML per day.

The latest figures indicate approximately 41 weeks of water supply remaining.

With the dam at full capacity, the latest rainfall provides further support to the region's water reserves. However, keeping daily consumption close to the municipal target remains important.

Haarlem Dam holds above 100%

Haarlem Dam is currently at 101.19% full, with 18 mm of rainfall recorded over the past week.

The dam's level remains a positive indicator for the local water supply, particularly as the region moves through the wetter spring period.

Every drop still counts

Full dams can create a welcome sense of security, but responsible water use remains important.

Residents can help keep demand under control by fixing leaking taps and toilets, taking shorter showers, only running washing machines and dishwashers with full loads, and avoiding unnecessary watering.

Where possible, rainwater can also be collected for suitable household and garden uses.

For now, the latest figures provide encouraging news for the Garden Route: both dams remain well supplied, while recent rainfall continues to support the region's water resources.
