NATIONAL NEWS - A 19-year-old woman was allegedly attacked and raped at the Voortrekker Monument on Saturday morning.
Bert Visser, Monument operational manager said the attack happened around 08:00.
“The young woman was confronted by an unknown man at the ‘Assegaai’ bathrooms,” Visser said.
He said these bathrooms were under renovation and cordoned off.
The man who approached the woman was apparently dressed in black with a balaclava hiding his face.
“He punched her in the stomach and then led her to the ‘Skool op Wiele’ bathrooms where he raped her,” Visser told Rekord.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said police were still searching for the perpetrator.
“No arrest has yet been made,” said Selepe.
“Police are investigating.”
