Twenty-two-year-old Mabuti Oersen was sentenced in the Colesberg High Court on Monday on 19 charges that included four counts of rape for which he received three life sentences and 15 years on one count of rape.
The other charges included robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, house-breaking with intent to steal and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The Acting Commander of De Aar Policing Cluster, Colonel Antonie Du Preez, commended the investigating officers from Colesberg police and the De Aar Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for their work on the case.
He said the convictions resulted in justice for the victims of Oersen's crime spree adding that the community should feel safer now that he's off the streets.
