Replacing the XC60 as the Chinese-owned Swedish brand's smallest and indeed newest SUV offering, the XC40 is also first to ride on its new CMA platform that will underpin the next generation of 40-series models, in addition to being the most customisable Volvo on sale today.
Initially, the XC40 will be offered in two trim levels, the base spec Momentum and top spec R-Design, with drive going to all four wheels. Power will come from Volvo's 2.0-litre Drive-E engine with the unit in the D4 diesel developing 140 kW and 184 kW in the T5 petrol. A 115 kW T3 and 140 kW T4, as well as a D3 with 110 kW will be added later, along with front-wheel drive derivatives.
Final specification is yet to be revealed, with Volvo merely stating that the much lauded nine-inch Sensus Connect infotainment system will be included in addition to a 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, two-tone paint finish and extensive range of driver assistance systems.
