The second model to wear the much loved moniker after the Insignia GSI, the Corsa GSI returns after a six year hiatus, and also marks the 25th anniversary of the last model being offered by sister brand Vauxhall in the United Kingdom. As previously reported though, the GSI will slot in below the OPC as a warm hot hatch instead becoming the new model flagship.
Available in three-door bodystyle only, the GSI features a number of styling tweaks taken from the OPC, namely the honeycomb grille, enlarged air intakes, carbon-look mirrors, optional 18-inch alloy wheels, specific bodykit, chrome exhaust outlet and a prominent boot spoiler.
Inside, the GSI gets a sport steering wheel, aluminium pedals and optional Recaro sport seats, while changes underneath the skin consists of the OPC derived sport chassis and red brake calipers.
Somewhat oddly, Opel has not released any engine or performance details, although reports suggest the GSI could use the same 110 kW 1.4-litre turbocharged engine as the Corsa Sport, or alternatively the 132 kW 1.6-litre turbo from the current Astra mated, in both cases, to a six-speed manual gearbox.
No word on whether the Corsa GSI would made available in South Africa has yet been made.
