The event takes place in the mountains kingdom of Lesotho, a four and a half hour drive from Johannesburg. The conditions presented by this rocky, mountainous landscape make for some of the most challenging riding in the world. Last year its rained non-stop for all three days of the event while this year there was barely a cloud.
The event divides participants in to three categories depending on rider skills. The Bronze category is for your capable weekend rider who has prepared themselves thoroughly, while the Silver class is for more capable riders who have experienced hard endurance riding before and the Gold section is for highly skilled, professional riders who want to test themselves to the absolute limit.
The bronze category saw Jonathan Levy take gold in what was a very tough finish with first, second place Nimrod Hemmo and third place Charl Weyer all struggling over the difficult last section. In the silver class Dalan Hall took honours while Lloyd Kirk took second and Andries Deetlefs in third position. The Silver class also saw a seriously impressive ride from Kirsten Landman who became the best lady finished in the event with a 23rd place finish in what was a very difficult Silver category and her first Roof of Africa outing.
In the Gold category the event played host to the best extreme enduro rider in the world in the form of 2013 Roof of Africa winner Graham Jarvis who finished third this year behind two youthful South Africans. Taking second place was Brett Swanepoel on his Yamaha while in first place, claiming his second title was Wade Young who at the tender age of 18 appears to be making waves in the enduro world.
