While it remains to be seen whether the actual production model would indeed resemble drawings in its entirety, the exterior of what is known as the Forte in some markets takes a number of cues from the Stinger with an almost fastback appearance, lowered roofline and slanted front end.
Claimed to be "more sophisticated" than the outgoing model when viewed from the outside, the inside represents a big departure from the current Cerato with a simpler, minimalist design highlighted by a freestanding tablet-like infotainment display, slimmer air vents and updated ventilation switches.
In terms of engines, the Cerato will most likely come powered by a 1.4 or 1.6-litre normally aspirated petrol engine, along with a turbocharged 1.0-litre or 1.6-litre mill, as well as a free breathing 2.0-litre unit. A 1.6-litre diesel in various states of tune will likely serve those looking for a oil-burning option. Expect transmission options to consist of a five or six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic and a seven-speed dual-clutch.
Sales in some markets are due to commence later this year with South African availability yet to be finalised.
