Speaking to Australia’s motoring.com.au at the unveiling of DBS in Germany last week, Aston Martin Chief Creative Designer, Marek Reichman, hinted that the name would instead be transferred and used for the planned mid-engine sports coupe that will rival the Ferrari 488 Pista, McLaren 720S and Audi R8 in 2020.
“Without saying yes, that sounds like a plausible solution for a beautiful name like Vanquish.Obviously, Vanquish is an incredible name for us. Ever since the first Vanquish, it has stood as the most powerful brute in the family but we felt, more importantly, this was a true DBS more than a Vanquish because of the base product and how we’ve derived it to get to DBS,” Reichman said.
Referring to the brand’s mega rollout of seven models every year, Reichman remarked that a total of 12 scale models depicting the mid-mounted Vanquish had already been drawn-up, as well as three full-size models he claimed “will be the most beautiful mid-engined car on the road”.
Reichman however declined to provide more details when quizzed further, merely stating that the Vanquish would be produced “with all the learnings from Valkyrie” hypercar shown in Geneva last year.
While purely speculative, the Vanquish will likely come powered by a variation of the DBS Superleggra’s AMG sourced 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12, or, according to the publication, the smaller 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor, with further input said to come from technical partner, Red Bull Racing’s lead Formula 1 engineer, Adrian Newey.
