As previously reported, the Toyota South Africa has now followed international trends by renaming its sports coupe as the GT86, with exterior changes consisting out of a new black rear spoiler and folding mirrors and black 17-inch alloy wheels.
The biggest upgrades to be find underneath where Toyota has added new ventilated Brembo disc brakes with the front rotors measuring 326mm x 30mm at the front and 316mm x20mm, as well as new calipers claimed to improve the braking swept area by 38% and six percent respectively.
On the inside, the touchscreen infotainment system gains satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with standard specification remaining otherwise unchanged, while the exterior colour chart has also been revised and includes Ice Silver Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, Lapis Blue Pearl, Pure Red and the Bright Blue hue.
Despite a recent report suggesting that the next GT86 might receive a bigger 2.4-litre engine, Toyota has, until then, stuck with the existing 2.0-litre Boxer motor that produces 147kW/250Nm. Now only offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, the GT86 range has been cut to a single model with three year/100 000km warranty and four year/60 000km service plan included in the R575 700 asking price.
