With more than a few nods to the GT concept shown two years ago, the still hidden concept boasts a long bonnet and L-shaped daytime running LEDs in an overall style the Russelsheim automaker has dubbed the Opel Compass.
“We revisited our design philosophy with the intention to apply some significant fine-tuning when creating future Opel models. There is a clear continuity and consistency in the way we express Opel’s values,” Opel/Vauxhall Vice President for Design, Mark Adams, said in a post on Instagram.
“With the 2018 Brand Concept car, we are continuing to develop the principles we explored with the Opel GT Concept. However, we have taken several steps forward and are now setting the structure for the future face of Opel. This will be articulated around what we call the Opel Compass”.
According to the Adams, the principle of the Compass is to “organise the design elements of Opel’s future face around two strong axes that intersect the brand emblem, which becomes the focus point more than ever before. The center-crease line on the bonnet represents the vertical axis, which will become bolder and purer in its execution”.
Although the switch to PSA platforms has already started with the Peugeot 2008 based Crossland X and the Grandland X using the same underpinnings as the Peugeot 3008, Opel is only expected to make its new styling a production reality in 2020, with the first models to benefit being the new Mokka X and Corsa.
