Speaking to Britain’s Autocar, Nissan’s Head of Global Design, Alfonso Albaisa, said that the next model would take no inspiration from the current Juke as well as the new Leaf, remaking that it would instead be an “urban meteor with a nasty attitude”.
“Our job was easier with the first one, because there was nothing else like it. And that car’s success was so huge even given how polarising it looked. The second one couldn’t be derivative or evolutionary and still be a Juke. We’d almost have to change its name to ‘Nancy’, otherwise,” Albaisa said.
He also dismissed allegations that the newcomer had to be restyled before being introduced, saying “It is certainly coming soon. But it didn’t get ‘sent back’. I’m not sure where that story came from. It’s a very cool car and it still has all of its attitude”.
Build at Nissan Sunderland Plant in the United Kingdom, the Juke has sold in excess of 100 000 units a year on the Old Continent since being unveiled eight years ago according to the publication, with the newcomer expected to move to the same V-platform as the Micra and next Renault Clio, and use the same engines consisting of the 898 cc three-cylinder turbo, the bigger 1.2-litre four-cylinder and the 1.5-litre turbodiesel with a choice of front-or-all-wheel drive.
