While the single image only showcases the new LED headlight, the Q3 is expected to take after the Q8 in the styling department, with the same applying to the interior where elements of the new A1 are also likely to feature such as the angled MMI infotainment system, 10.1-inch Virtual Cockpit Display instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charger and a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The Q3’s biggest change though is set to come underneath the skin where the dated PQ35 or A5 platform that underpinned the Volkswagen Golf V and VI, as well as the Scirocco and current TT, will be swapped for the much-vaunted MQB and likely the same assortment of petrol and diesel engines as the current Golf and Polo.
On the performance side, the Q3 will spawn both S and RS variants, the former expected to arrive towards the end of this year powered by the same 2.0 TSI as the Golf R, and the latter touching down either next year or in 2020 with a variation of the RS3 and TT RS’ 2.5-litre, five-cylinder TSI. A hybrid model, allegedly pairing the 1.5 TSI Evo with an electric motor, is also rumoured.
Despite the provided launch date, expect the first images and details to be revealed leading up to the unveiling.
