M5 Competition Pack
First mentioned of a possible introduction in January this year, BMW online forum bimmerpost.com has claimed that the M5 CP will receive a 19kW power bump over the standard model, lifting the 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8’s output to 460kW. No torque figures were revealed, but expect it to be up on the current 750 Nm.
In terms of performance, the CP will shave 0.1 seconds off the standard M5’s 0-100 km/h sprint, meaning it will complete the benchmark distance in 3.3 seconds, and top out at 305 km/h with the M Driver’s Package added.
Aside from its power gain, the M5 CP’s range of extras will include upgraded suspension, a new sports exhaust with unique tuning, a M carbon fibre engine cover, black Competition badging on the bootlid similar to that of the M2 Competition, new alloy wheels, black lower rear bumper section, black grille and side vents, a black bootlid spoiler and Competition branded illuminated door sills.
No information regarding the interior was however revealed, with the article also claiming that the CP won’t be available with carbon ceramic brakes even as an option. According to the post, production will commence in July with first deliveries slated for September. Pricing is yet to be revealed, with the supplied information providing a price tag of AU$ 229 000, equating to R2 181 357.
620d GT
Until now only available with a selection of six-cylinder turbo-petrol and turbodiesel engines, the massive downturn in the sales of oil burners has seemingly done little to hinder BMW from launching the new 620d GT in Europe.
Slotting in below the 630d GT, the 620d GT swaps its bigger sibling’s 3.0-litre bent-six for a 2.0-litre four-cylinder developing 140 kW and 400 Nm of torque. Connected to an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox, the mill will take the 620 GT from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, and allow it to reach a top whack of 220 km/h. In some market, the 620 GT will be available with xDrive all-wheel drive as an option.
In Germany, pricing will start at €66 900 (R1 014 653) with BMW South Africa still to confirm local availability.
