The GLC Coupé is just a concept show car for now but insiders suggest that it is near-production-standard. This means Mercedes-Benz is considering putting this car into production in the near future. Why wouldn’t they? The BMW X4 is becoming quite popular not only here, but in other countries, as well. So what does this GLC Coupé Concept have to offer?
When it comes to the design of the GLC we find a short, crisp overhang with upright radiator grille and twin-blade louvre, so characteristic of sporty Mercedes-Benz models. The power domes on the bonnet, the sweeping lines of the A-wing below the radiator grille, the large side air intakes and the visually dominant under-body protection, pay tribute to the brand’s "Born to race on every ground" motto.
From the side profile a clear indication of the more prominent SUV genes are given by side door-sill extensions, reminiscent of the side running boards on a classic SUV. Flush with the outside edge of the body, wide 21-inch wheels with large, heavily profiled tyres, combine with the relatively high ground clearance to endorse the sporty dynamic off-road ambitions of the GLC Coupé Concept.
When it comes to power, Mercedes-Benz has given the GLC Coupé Concept enough grunt to match its sporty looks. The show car has been fitted with a V6 power-plant delivering around 270kW and 520Nm of torque. This makes for a highly sporty level of performance. Familiar from AMG sports models the direct-injection biturbo engine is mated to a new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission, while permanent all-wheel-drive in the form of 4Matic, drives the wheels.
The SUV department of Mercedes-Benz has room for further models, such as a production version of the GLC Coupé Concept. The range would thus include seven models, allowing customers to order a tailormade vehicle to suit their personal preferences. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any further developments.
