"With the World Champion Edition we would like to share with our customers our delight and pride in the strong performance of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team," said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG. "This is a way for every fan to share the success of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg," he added.
The vehicle can be told apart from a regular model by virtue of its petrol green and black livery, offset by the silver or grey paint scheme. The model also gets what Mercedes calls, the streamlining package, which includes a larger splitter, special flics and a roof spoiler rear end. It also gets silver 19-inch alloy wheels with green accents.
Inside, the model gets performance seats, the exclusive package, night package and the dynamic plus package. We’d liken it to the Edition 1 models initially brought to South Africa in terms of specification. In terms of interior changes, the special edition model gets the F1 team’s nomenclature in the centre console and seats with the team’s colours running down the centre.
The limited edition model acquires the updated powertrain with 280kW from its 2.0-litre turbocharged motor for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds, thanks to an all-wheel-drive system.
The World Championship Edition celebrated its world premiere as part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Yas Marina on the 26th November 2015 and from January 2016 it will be available for a limited time, until May 2016. The new model will arrive on local shores in the first quarter of 2016.
