Cronje, who piloted a Ford Fiesta to victory last year, approached Volkswagen South Africa for a possible drive in a Polo for this season, after ending his relationship with Ford.
Volkswagen Motorsport will provide Mark and his navigator, Barry White, with the use of one of the S2000 Polos, used by the works team in 2015 for the season.
According to sources, the car will be prepared and run by Thompson Racing and Volkswagen will continue to provide technical support where required.
Matt Gennrich, general manager, Group Communications at Volkswagen Group South Africa, further added that Volkswagen has given Mark the Amarok for a year, for his daily commute.

Mark has secured his own sponsorship to race the Volkswagen Polo S2000 for the season. The 2016 National Rally Championship season kicks off in Welkom this weekend.
