Citing an unnamed Jaguar spokesperson, Autocar reports that sales of S models only made up two percent of total XE and XF sales, with the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) emissions requirements set to be implemented on September first, leaving little room for both to continue.
The Indian owned British automaker’s announcement comes mere days after the introduction of the 300 Sport variant of both models, and after BMW confirmed in February that it would be discontinuing sales of the M3 by May due in part to the WLTP.
“We have introduced the 296bhp [221 kW] 2.0L Ingenium, our most powerful four-cylinder engine yet, at a better price point [than the S models] which we are directing customers to, [so that they are] still getting a Jaguar driving experience but more efficiently,” the spokesperson said.
The publication also claims that a similar fate could befall V6 versions of the F-Pace and XJ, although nothing has yet been confirmed. As the WLTP is limited to Europe for now, don’t expect the local arm of Jaguar to be making the same cuts anytime soon.
