Unveiled last year in celebrating 25 years of the Vauxhall Corsa GSI in the United Kingdom, the first local Opel model to wear the GSI designation in nearly a decade, and what is likely to be the final encore for the current generation Corsa, essentially rates a three-door version of the now discontinued five-door Corsa Sport and receives exterior upgrades such as 18-inch alloy wheels, and OPC inspired bodykit made up of a honeycomb grille, carbon-look mirror caps, extended door sills, a chrome tipped exhaust and prominent roof spoiler.
Inside, the interior gains leather trimmed Recaro sport seats, aluminium pedal, a flat-bottom leather wrapped sports steering wheels and gear lever, while underneath, the chassis has been retuned and the brakes upgraded with red callipers.
As with the Sport, motivation for the GSI comes from a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110 kW and 220 N.m of torque, transmitted to the front wheels via a short-ratio six-speed manual gearbox. Top speed is pegged at 209 km/h with Opel claiming a 0-100 km/h sprint of 8.9 seconds.
Priced at R365 900, the GSI is covered by a three year/120 000 km warranty as well as a three year/60 000 km service plan and is expected to go on sale from next month.
