Unlikely to reach production soon, the concept indirectly pays tribute to the discontinued FJ Cruiser from a visual perspective, with the same blocky design and prominent logo bar finished in white. Novel elements though include a removable picture window incorporated into the C-pillar and a GoPro located inside the driver's side mirror.
The interior, while incorporating elements from FJ, offers a futuristic look with rounded air vents, dual LCD screens with the lower boasting a roller-drum display for the speed and fuel gauge, and even a removable radio.
Designed in California, the concept also comes equipped with sleeping bags between the front seats and a so-called Multi-Hatch opening tailgate which open vertically in Outdoor mode, and in a barn-door configuration when in Urban mode.
Toyota has meanwhile remained coy on the FT-4X's exact technical details, merely stating is comes equipped with a four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a CVT, and driving all four wheels with a low-range transfer case fitted.
