With the exception of the new Nissan Leaf so far not yet confirmed for local introduction, the multi-award winning Volvo XC40 scored an rating of 97% for driver safety that puts behind the XC60 and equal with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Alfa Romeo Stelvio tested last year, while the South Africa bound new Ford Focus recorded a score of 85%.
"It’s good to see that manufacturers, both in the premium sector and the volume market, are responding to our tough new requirements introduced in 2018 by fitting technologies that will save lives. Technologies like AEB and ELK deliver immediate safety benefits but they are also enabling technologies for the autonomous vehicles of the future,” Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said in a statement.
