The new Land Rover Discovery Sport features a dynamic design with a compact footprint, which provides seven-passenger seating in a 5+2 configuration. The 2015 Discovery Sport is said to deliver a highly refined combination of performance, safety and efficiency. The Land Rover Discovery Sport boasts many modern technologies as well as class-leading off-road capabilities. But none of these come at the expense of the environment.
Its nine-speed automatic transmission – a first in the segment – boasts ratios that not only allow for a smoother, more refined drive, but also uses taller ratios in ninth gear to allow lower engine speeds when cruising, thus optimising fuel economy.
The transmission is paired to a choice of three engines: The 2.0-litre petrol Si4 motor producing 177kW, the 2.2-litre turbo diesel TD4 motor with an output of 110kW and the 2.2-litre turbo diesel SD4 engine producing 140kW.
During the design phases the Discovery Sport’s aerodynamics were fine-tuned, minimising its frontal area and optimising air flow to deliver a drag coefficient of 0.36. This makes it one of the most aerodynamic Land Rovers to date, further aiding fuel economy and lowering carbon dioxide emissions.
In addition to lightweight aluminium in the Discovery Sport’s construction, Land Rover also made use of natural, renewable and recyclable materials. At the end of its lifecycle, 85 percent of the Discovery Sport is completely recyclable, ensuring its eco footprint is as low as possible.
