Last month, it was reported that the current Fusion, which will end production in 2021, will be revived as a high-riding estate along the lines of the Taurus X that ended production in 2009, at the behest of Ford dealers due to its strong-selling reputation.
While it remains to be seen what the new Fusion would look like, Brazilian automotive artist, Kleber Silva, has provided a worthwhile hint in the form of a new render. Using the defunct Territory as a base, the depicting blends the silhouette of the Australian-made crossover with the nose of the Kuga and the rear of the North American market Edge, creating what appears to be a production ready model that will likely slot in somewhere between the Kuga/Escape and Flex in the Blue Oval’s line-up.
Whereas the Taurus X, which from 2005-2007 was known as the Freestyle, came powered by a normally aspirated 195kW 3.5-litre V6, the likely options for the Fusion could well be the existing 1.5, 2.0 and 2.3-litre EcoBoost motors, as well as the 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 that produces up to 250kW depending on the model it powers. At present though, these are purely speculative.
