Snapped by motor1.com testing in Germany, the pair of blacked-out X1s sported extensive masking around the front, but which will likely be limited to tweaked headlights, a redesigned front bumper mirroring that of the X2, and a wider take on the kidney grilles.
At the rear, and as per the comparatively light levels of disguise, the X1 will receive a new bumper and light clusters, the latter now seemingly more similar to that of the X5 than ever. Based on a prior image, the interior seems to have been carried over as is, although the online platform alleges it comes equipped with the bigger 10.25-inch iDrive infotainment system.
Up front, the X1 will more than likely retain its current range of turbo-petrol and turbodiesel motors, albeit revised to conform to the controversial Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) requirements implemented in Europe on September first.
Open to speculation though is whether it will be available as an M Performance model not offered by the current generation. If approved, expect motivation to come from the same 225kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol used in the recently unveiled X2 M35i, and which will reportedly also power the forthcoming M130i X Performance.
According to the article, the X1 could make its world showing towards the end of this year, with the official public debut slated for the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
